How Blogging Has Empowered Women

Blogging has been a way for individuals to express their thoughts and opinions for some years now. Both men and women get on their computer and tippy tap away sharing thoughts, feelings, positive messages, disgust and interests. through the likes of public online article writing.

But why has blogging become an empowerment to women?

Whilst researching for this post I found that men blog about as equally, if not more than women. Which I found odd as I see very few male bloggers pop up on my suggested list on Bloglovin’. However, being female, I’m sure the internet naturally assumes that I will only be interested in my own gender. Which is probably true (male grooming and fashion aren’t my thing). However, there has been an influx in women bloggers and I truly believer it is due to the satisfaction blogging gives women that no other job can provide.

.

For many of us women having a blog is about building a business (fashion, lifestyle, graphic design, website building etc.). It’s about being creative and setting our own personal, as well as business, goals. Blogging for women has become a gateway of opportunity showing other ladies that there is no need for a man in his big office chair to tell us what to do. Because we can manage our business. We are self-sufficient. We know how to write, create, build and market ourselves. And when we get paid, we get paid fairly and that’s a big deal. Us girls are able to set the rate that we deem fair to us for doing our job. Whereas in many work environments, we may be victims to inequality in the pay packet department.

But blogging hasn’t just empowered women by allowing us to be our own boss, oh no. Women are becoming more and more comfortable in using their voice. Publicly. By openly sharing emotions, ideas and opinions bloggers attract attention and involvement from both readers and brands. Creating a form of impact on our audience, based purely on sharing passions and concepts, female bloggers feel not only relief from being honest and outspoken but are given a sense of empowerment and purpose.

Another factor of blogging empowerment is the sense of community. When we are all in the same boat, when our gender has and is being oppressed by certain ideologies by both men and women, we are able to digitally come together. Bloggers are a family – especially the women. And I say that because we appreciate not only the work that goes into creating good content and making it worthwhile for both the blogger and audience but we appreciate the struggles other female bloggers go through. We appreciate how we can be overlooked or critiqued for not being a certain type of woman. How we are often compared to others. We share not only a common interest and we share common struggles. And we support each other through that.

Overall, blogging has given us girls a purpose. We take the reigns, come together and work out butts off to speak our minds and make a business out of what we love to do. And hey, even if there’s no money involved, we are still using our voice. We are no longer being afraid to be ourselves.
