A Bold New Look

Embrace the way that you are right now, says SEELE’s lifestyle editor

A new month is here along with a whole new range of ways to look and feel beautiful. Gone are the days where Kate Moss was the epitome of beauty for all with her waifish looks and genetically blessed genes. Now is the time where supermodels like Ashley Graham and Winnie Harlow are ruling the catwalks. Embrace the way that you are right now, no matter how you look.

A quick way to love the way you are now is to buy clothes that you like. Certain brands and certain designers create looks that do run small, but there are a lot of options out there when it comes to sizes. Don’t buy something based on the size but go with how it fits on your body. Just because you’re a size small in one brand doesn’t mean that you’ll be the same size in another brand. You could be a larger size in another brand just because the clothing fit runs on the smaller side. If what you wear fits well, you’ll love how you look. It was only a few years ago that Kim Kardashian caused quite a stir when she had to lose weight to fit into a dress that once belonged to Marilyn Monroe. Such beauty standards are unhealthy and shouldn’t be something we aspire to attain. Love your body whether you are skinny or curvy.

Wearing minimal makeup and enhancing your looks naturally is a great way to go for a bold new look that celebrates you. When I went for a fashion event recently, I decided to go for a natural look with only my hair being done up the day before along with a dab of lip gloss. Although I wore something that went well for the event, I was a bit conscious of my weight. I simply reminded myself that I just had a baby and that it’s totally okay for me not to be as slender as I use to be. As a woman, I think it’s crucial to accept the way that I am at any given point in time. I think that we might forget that after looking at celebs quickly losing their pregnancy weight. That’s an unrealistic goal for anyone.

On our path to beautifying ourselves, we must remember to be fiercely bold. A bold new look can only happen once we embrace ourselves, flaws and all. It starts with you.
