Getting Back Into The Swing Of Things: Resolving To Go Deeper In God
I’ve always loved September. It’s like a reset month of a lot of things starting back up again. In this month, fashion will reconvene for its most important month of the year, universities are getting back into motion, kids are going back to school, parliamentary house are getting back into session, the United Nations reconvenes this month, and all of us will get back into a serious mode of working for the next two months. I also love how the leaves begin to change, signifying the change from summer to autumn.
We’re all getting back into the swing of things in this age of Covid, and as we start up again, we may be faced with questions of trying to discern the voice of God. But in order to discern the voice of God, we must be walking in lockstep with Him. We cannot fully look for Him in all situations, or exercise wisdom in knowing His will, or discern His voice unless we are walking with Him- period.
2020 has been a hard year for the whole world. But, it’s not just a year in God revealing what’s in people’s hearts, this is a year where God is exposing the sheep from the goats, the wheat from the chaff. We’re getting to a point where we don’t have to wonder who is truly a believer and who is not.
In this new decade, the roaring 20s, what a roar it will be. We will see more signs, miracles and wonders from God. But, we will also experience persecution. By “we” I mean the church. Believers will be called out and treated harshly for having Biblical standards and principles by the world. We will have to have thicker skin. We will see our leaders from pastors, to government leaders/politicians, bankers and those in power exposed for their wickedness. So, don’t be afraid to speak up against corruption and evil. But, this will take courage. We will see God doing major work in many nations that are filled with unrest and tension. But, we will also see a large wave of unbelievers coming to the knowledge and surrender of Jesus and this will be amazing!
There is no way to get through the roaring 20s if we’re not in relationship with God. I’m not just talking being born-again. I’m talking knowing God so personally and being in so deep a relationship with Him that this is what’s going to get us through this next decade. Lukewarm faith of not diving into His Word, or not crafting out time to worship and pray in your own intimate time is not going to get us through. How will we make it through persecution (being lied on, losing positions), how will we carry on when we see those we trusted exposed for evil, how will we have the courage to speak up against corruption and wrongdoing, and how can we be a part of the many that will come to Jesus? It’s going to take a close relationship with Jesus to make it. We have to resolve now that we will go deeper with Him and seek Him for more intimacy.
I encourage all of us that if we’re not making a relationship with God number 1 that we stop and reorganize our priorities. God must always come first, not our work, relationships, things, or status.
