If You Love Cinema Then The Paramount Hotel Midtown in Dubai Is Picture Perfect For You

There are only two Paramount Hotels in the world and both are in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The newer of the two is the Paramount Hotel Midtown, situated in Dubai’s Business Bay, close to the largest mall in the world, the Mall of Dubai, as well as the hustle and bustle of the city. A five-star hotel, its edifice jets into the Dubai skyline, offering stunning views of the city.

Now, if you’re wondering if Paramount Pictures Corporation controls the operations of the hotel, the answer is sort of but not directly. They were set to control operations of the hotel when it opened in February 2022, but instead, that fell to Damac Properties, the largest Emirati property development company in the UAE.  Paramount allows its name, movie posters, and logo to be used in the hotel. The cinema theme is found everywhere, making the hotel feel all the more an at-home place for the most ardent movie lover.

What’s It Like?

As soon as you step off the street and take the elevator to the 14th floor, you see a humble yet boastfully fun Christmas display and cinema imagery all over. During the Christmas season, the city’s hotels have no shortage of festive cheer. The lobby of the hotel is a sight to behold for children and cinephiles, where you see a large Christmas tree and a giant gingerbread house on display. Photos of Marlon Brando, Clark Gable, the Paramount Pictures iconic mountain (a rendering of Ben Lomond’s snowy peak near Ogden, Utah). Quite simply the lobby, restaurants, room floors, and rooms keep you engaged with movie paraphernalia, no matter your age.

Where is it?

Located in the Business Bay area of Dubai, walkable to Sheikh Zayed Road, and a 5 min taxi ride to the Mall of Dubai, it’s in a pretty happening place of the city.

Rooms

With 281 rooms and suites, the tower is also filled with residences of people who live in the building full time as well. With suites that have names like “Blockbuster” or “A-List” which make you feel a part of the high-cinema-life during your visit, you’ll wake up to the sunshine of the city with the big picturesque rooms- even in a standard room.

The Blockbuster Suite can fit two adults and one child. As you walk in you notice the large living room and dining room with Nespresso coffee machine, and half bath. That space makes the suite feel more like an apartment home than a hotel room, giving guests space to relax, not having to be on top of each other. With dark tones of a wood floor and gray sofa, it’s heavy in color, but not overbearing. A balcony shared between the living room and bedroom ushers in the bright Dubai sunshine. The bedroom comes with a super king-sized bed and its own TV as well. Each room comes with a digital safe, iron, and spacious marble bathroom.

Food and Drink

There are five dining options in the hotel. The lobby has its own café for hot drinks and cakes, while Melrose Bar and Lounge is a speakeasy inspired bar, and next door is Paparazzi Tuscan, open for lunch and dinner, serves an Italian menu. Cinescope Restaurant is on the 14th floor like the lobby and Paparazzi, and that’s where the daily morning breakfast buffet is served. There you find a barista with fresh juices, a salad and fruit station, and a hot bar with American and British options. The servers are friendly and helpful each morning, bringing you hot drinks and whatever you may need help with.

The Malibu Sky Lounge and Bar can be found on the 64th floor, by the pool serving lite bites and drinks. It’s also open for lunch and dinner, and is reminiscent of sunny Malibu in California. Bright inside, there are lit-up street signs, and the space offers the best views of Dubai during the day and at night. It’s most engaging to sit by the window and dine at night, but visit during the day for clear views of skyscrapers.

The menu for the Malibu Sky Lounge and Bar is California-esque. The Banana Dump is a must-try | Photo Credit: Seele Magazine

At Malibu Sky Lounge and Bar, you’ll find the most delightful guacamole with a little spicy kick, as well as seafood options, and succulent steak. The Banana Dump is divine. Served in a plastic jar, its Lotus cookies base with a banana pudding-like custard mixed with bananas melts in your mouth. Please, you mustn’t leave the hotel without trying it!

Leisure

A sizable gym can be found in the hotel, on the same floor as the hotel spa, and the best part is the rooftop pool. Warmed now, as it’s quite chilly, it covers almost the entire roof. There’s a deep end and a section to lounge in the shallow part, as well as a section of Jacuzzis.

If you want to be indoors, on the same floor of the Pause Spa, in the respective men’s and women’s locker rooms are Jacuzzis for relaxing. On the lady’s side is the steam room next to the jacuzzi, and on the other side is the sauna. And of course, booking a facial or massage at the spa is an option.

Verdict stay at the hotel, especially if movies are your thing.

Best For the rooftop pool and the Banana Dump.

Don’t Miss the iconic Hollywood imagery found throughout the hotel.
