Review: The Standard, East Village New York City

Background

The Standard brand of hotels are boutique hotels in some of the world’s renowned cities, and they’re steady expanding. But their East Village NYC hotel is surrounded by restaurants, cafes, and community gardens, and there’s a cozy vibe and familiarity with the neighborhood surrounding the hotel. Though the entrance of the hotel is located on a busy street, Cooper Square is quiet, yet lively.

What’s It Like?

The21-story hotel has a young vibe, especially with the design of the lobby and the garden patio where hotel guests and city dwellers can meet up in a green space, in a city where spacious gardens are hard to come by. It’s bustling but not overwhelming with guests and visitors as they firstly enter a NYC tenement building for the lobby and restaurant.

Where is it?

Situated in New York City’s East Village, off Cooper Square and near New York University’s campus. This Standard Hotel is in the nucleus of one of the Big Apple’s artistic neighborhoods.

Rooms

Rooms are spacious for New York City hotels with comfy beds of Italian sheets and fluffy down pillows, and desk space. Due to its location, all rooms have large floor to ceiling windows with quintessential skyscraper views of Manhattan. Rooms also come with large flat screen TVs, Bluetooth audio speakers, and modern bathrooms with a bathtub for soaking- as well as cozy bathrobes and XI bath towels. Pets are welcome, Wifi is included with every room, and room service is readily available.

Food and Drink

Café Standard offers starters from shrimp cocktail and crab toast, to healthy options like the grain bowl and avocado toast. Entrees range from steak frites to the standard burger, and pei mussels.

Leisure

While the hotel doesn’t have a gym inside, there is a partnership with Crunch Fitness, a full-service gym across the street. And taking a walk around the Cooper Square neighborhood is exercise in and of itself with street culture views and vibes.

Verdict

It’s modern, it’s hip, and it’s a fun hotel. It’s not traditional luxury but The Standard East Village is a boutique hotel with excellent customer service, the rooms are super clean and fun too, and the NYC skyline views are to die for. It’s central to various Subway lines, and taxis are in an arm’s reach. It’s definitely a hotel that can easily become one’s New York City hotel of choice.
