The Slingshot Effect

I remember when I was around 6 or so my dad made me a slingshot because I had seen one in the “Dennis the Menace” movie and I wanted one. Slingshots can be quite useful for all sorts of things like getting an annoying bird out of a tree, or accurately shooting something down. But, have you ever thought that God pulls us like the slings in slingshots so that we can be propelled further?

Elasticity is very important to God. He needs us to let Him and the trials of life stretch us, compress us, and expand us so that when we return to our original shape we will be more useful, stronger, wiser and malleable. Also, in order to be propelled further, we have to be pulled back, pulled back so far back to where it feels like we will break. Why? So that when God is ready to release the sling, which is the growth from trials, the rock in the sling, which is you and I will go far- and, will make a kingdom impact. We need to be stretched. Why? Because if we are not stretched then we will go just a few feet, or several feet, but nowhere near where we could go unless God pulls the sling. How wonderful when God propels us to go far- I mean real far.

So, if you’re feeling the stretch it’s a good thing. It means God is working and at just the right time He will release you and you will be stronger to tolerate whatever you faced in the stretching, in the place where you will land after being propelled.

Happy Friday!
