Inspired by a Parisian apartment, it’s gentle yet it draws you in with its dark and elegant floral tones, and is filled with upcycled ingredients

One of the most common health issues are related to the thyroid, which in turn can lead to hormonal and XXX issues. Fragrances, though they may smell exquisite, can affect a body’s functions and lead to thyroid imbalance. Abel prides itself on being 100% natural. But it wasn’t an easy journey. The Apartment is composed of rich, upcycled ingredients, that also have a low-impact on luxury.

Founded by Frances Shoemack, a former winemaker who created a natural fragrance brand when others thought it would be impossible. Joining her was perfumer Isaac Sinclair, and the two radically created a roadmap for modern, natural fragrances to be created, where they wouldn’t be reliant on harsh petrochemicals. Though launched in Amsterdam, Abel is now based in Wellington, New Zealand with global distribution.

The Apartment is inspired by the rich surroundings of L’Appartement Étoile in Paris that overlooks the Arc de Triomphe, as well as the creative space for Abel’s master perfumers. What Shoemack is trying with this fragrance to do, is create something that redefines and elevates what modern luxury means, all while trying to be authentic to the brand’s values.

“We were busy working on other projects when I found myself daydreaming about the person who may live in this chic apartment,” explains Shoemack in announcement notes. “Their appreciation for the finer things in life, quality craftsmanship that stands the test of time, hypermodern details that suggest a futurist—yet understated — appreciation. When I shared my dreaming with [Abel Master Perfumer] Isaac, somewhere between the walls and furniture themselves our muse emerged. We considered how the occupant of L’Appartement would dress. Timeless but with a touch of playful sur- prise. We also considered where they would go- the opera or the latest IT festival. And of course, what would they smell of, a rich gourmand floral?”

The Apartment opens with upcycled tart cherry and rum, then opens up to rum, tuberose, and upcycled cacao, and closes with myrrh and tolu balsam. The idea is being in a Parisian apartment where light floods in through velvet curtains, while a cherry stained napkin rests beside a rum-infused cocktail.

Coming in a distinct purple box, it can be purchased at abelfragrance.com, or with Abel stockists globally for 6mL and 30mL.
