Best point for best views of London other than the London Eye

Primrose Hill, located just north of Regent’s Park, offers an unrivalled panoramic view of London’s skyline. It’s a beautiful and less crowded alternative to the usual tourist spots, perfect for a peaceful, reflective moment at any time of day. Many Londoners head there for a sunset picnic or a morning walk to soak in the views of landmarks like the Shard, the London Eye, and St Paul’s Cathedral, all perfectly framed against the sky.

For a more contemporary view, The View from The Shard provides a dramatic 360-degree perspective from the highest point in London. It’s an awe-inspiring experience to see the city from such a height, especially at dusk when the city lights begin to twinkle.

Best culinary experience in London:

London's food scene is as diverse as the city itself. If you want a true British dining experience steeped in history, Rules is one of my top recommendations. It’s the oldest restaurant in London, founded in 1798, and it’s a masterclass in British cuisine, offering game, pies, and classic roasts in a setting that feels timeless. 

For a more contemporary yet equally refined experience, I would recommend The Ledbury in Notting Hill. It’s a Michelin-starred restaurant with a modern approach to British and European cuisine. The service, ambiance, and food presentation are impeccable.

For those wanting something a bit more adventurous, Sketch in Mayfair offers an unforgettable, quirky dining experience in a surrealist-inspired setting. Every room has a unique design and offers a different culinary concept, from fine dining to afternoon tea.

Best tips for Christmas time in London:

Christmas in London is absolutely magical. A must-see is the transformation of Covent Garden, which becomes a festive wonderland with giant Christmas trees, carol singing, and dazzling decorations. The atmosphere is one of sheer enchantment, and the nearby shops offer unique gifts perfect for the season. 

Another must is the Winter Wonderland in Hyde Park. It’s a large festive fair with ice skating, circus shows, and Christmas markets. Guests can enjoy mulled wine, hot chocolate, and a host of festive treats, or brave the rides for a thrill.

London’s department stores, especially Harrods and Fortnum & Mason, go all out with their festive window displays, and a visit to these stores offers a taste of old-fashioned Christmas elegance. Be sure to visit Somerset House for ice skating beneath a grandly decorated Christmas tree. It’s an iconic winter scene.

Best tips for New Year’s Eve in London:

London’s New Year’s Eve fireworks are world-renowned and for good reason, but for those wanting to avoid the intense crowds along the Thames, I always recommend booking a table at a restaurant with a view. Aqua Shard, perched on the 31st floor of The Shard, offers incredible views over London’s skyline and the fireworks display, all while enjoying an exquisite meal.

For something slightly more relaxed, a river cruise along the Thames provides a fabulous vantage point to see the fireworks and the city's famous landmarks illuminated against the night sky.

For guests who prefer a quieter evening, they can take a walk along the South Bank or watch the festivities from one of London’s many rooftop bars, such as Radio Rooftop at ME London or Sushisamba in the City.

Best local markets in London:

London is home to some exceptional markets that cater to a range of interests. Borough Market is the ultimate destination for food lovers, with its vast selection of gourmet goods, artisanal products, and international flavours. You can sample everything from freshly baked pastries to oysters and enjoy seasonal British produce at its finest.

For a more bohemian and eclectic experience, Portobello Road Market in Notting Hill is a haven for antiques, vintage clothing, and art. It’s a vibrant and colourful market that’s great for finding one-of-a-kind treasures.

Columbia Road Flower Market on a Sunday is another local favourite—imagine streets lined with beautiful blooms, the air filled with the fragrance of fresh flowers, and lively banter from the flower sellers. It’s a quintessentially East London experience.

Best tips for using the public transport within London:

London’s public transport system is one of the best ways to navigate the city. The Oyster card is a convenient and affordable way to use the Tube, buses, and even the riverboat services. Alternatively, a contactless payment card works just as efficiently. The Tube is fast, but for shorter distances, buses offer a great opportunity to sightsee while travelling.

A great tip for tourists is to download the Citymapper app, which gives real-time updates and alternative routes for navigating the city. For a more scenic and leisurely journey, I recommend the Thames Clipper riverboats that offer fantastic views of London's landmarks.

There are several excellent day trips from London, but Windsor, with its majestic castle, is a particular favourite. Not only does Windsor Castle offer an insightful glimpse into the British monarchy, but the town itself is charming and picturesque, with beautiful walks along the River Thames.

For those looking for a countryside escape, the Cotswolds provide an idyllic day trip. Rolling hills, quaint villages, and thatched cottages make it feel like you’ve stepped back in time. Another option is Oxford, with its historic university, stunning architecture, and peaceful parks.

Most interesting museum of London:

While the British Museum and Natural History Museum are well-known favourites, I find Sir John Soane’s Museum to be one of the most fascinating and unique. Once the home of the renowned architect Sir John Soane, it houses an extraordinary collection of art, antiquities, and personal curiosities. The museum’s intimate, labyrinthine layout makes for a truly memorable visit.

Best way to be a local in London:

To feel like a true Londoner, take a relaxed morning stroll along the South Bank, enjoy a coffee from a local independent café, and perhaps wander through one of the city’s many parks, such as Hyde Park or Richmond Park, watching London wake up around you.

Embrace the city’s diversity by hopping on a bus or walking through areas like Shoreditch or Notting Hill, each with their own distinct character and energy. London is a city where discovery happens when you least expect it—let yourself wander without a rigid itinerary.

Best night-time experience in London:

London’s nightlife offers something for everyone. For a more relaxed yet atmospheric evening, I often recommend a walk along the South Bank at night, where you can see landmarks such as St Paul’s Cathedral, The Shard, and Tower Bridge beautifully illuminated.

Alternatively, for something livelier, a night out in Soho offers plenty of options for dining, drinks, and entertainment. London’s iconic theatres in the West End are also a fantastic way to spend an evening, with world-class performances every night.

Best morning experiences in London:

For a serene morning, I suggest visiting Kensington Gardens or St James’s Park, followed by a breakfast at The Wolseley or The Delaunay, both known for their traditional and stylish morning fare. If you’re up for an early adventure, watching the sunrise from Primrose Hill is an unforgettable way to start the day. 

The best traditions to watch in London other than the ‘changing guards’ at the Palace:

The Ceremony of the Keys at the Tower of London is a 700-year-old tradition where the Tower is ceremonially locked for the night. It’s a fascinating and historic event that takes place every evening and offers a glimpse into the ancient customs of the city.

Another annual tradition not to be missed is the Lord Mayor’s show, which is a vibrant and historical parade through the streets of the City of London, complete with marching bands, floats, and traditional ceremonies.

How one can be a better traveller:

To be a better traveller, I believe it’s important to stay open to new experiences and cultures. Don’t just stick to the guidebooks—ask locals for recommendations, take your time to truly experience the destination, and be respectful of the city’s customs and rhythms. Travel is about expanding horizons, so be curious, patient, and always open to the unexpected.

Weirdest request ever received:

One of the more memorable requests I’ve handled involved a guest asking me to fly their pet dog to Paris for a day of luxury. The dog was to have lunch at a Michelin-starred restaurant and return the same evening. It took a great deal of planning, but we made it happen!
