Lanvin Unveils The Final Chapter Of Its Character Studies Series
Shot by renowned photographer Steven Meisel, it also features model Raquel Zimmermann
Lanvin has been undergoing some changes as of late. When Bruno Sialelli exited in 2023, the famed French House has been taking its time before taking next steps. It was even recently listed on the New York Stock Exchange. There’s something unique about how Lanvin is navigating itself. It’s not in a rush to compete or do what other fashion houses are doing, it knows who it is as it builds on the legacy of its founder Jeanne Lanvin. In September 2024 Lanvin announced its new artistic director, Peter Copping who will unveil his first collection to the world in early 2025. But today, the brand unveiled a collection of photos it’s calling: Lanvin Character Studies: The Final Chapter, a project that flows in line with the House’s new direction.
In the House’s own words this series, “underlines a commitment to a brand communication that is relentlessly bold in its directness: intimate portraits of individuals — not archetypes or avatars, not merchandise — who make up and deliver depth to the new universe of the maison.” This photo series was born two years ago and was always meant to be seasonless. This final chapter is captured by photographer Steven Meisel, with the creative direction of M/M Paris France’s oldest couture House, all with the chic vibes of Jeanne Lanvin.

A series shot mostly in black and white, color is carefully added in. Models are dressed in pieces that express movement in a very real way, with an ode to Jeanne Lavin’s original sketches. Since 2022 the House is getting back to the guiding principles of Jeanne, with a concept of le Chic Ultime (meaning the quintessence of chic).
“Character Studies brings steadiness and clarity to a new perspective on France’s oldest couture house in a sociocultural moment of information overload and visual chaos,” states the House in collection notes. Brazilian model Raquel Zimmermann is one of the key figures of the campaign. She’s a part of other characters in the series but they’re all shot with natural elegance and sophistication- there’s nothing artificial about how they’re portrayed- something that’s key to Lanvin in this series.
