Oligo Professionnel Launches Blacklight Blonde Science, A Product Line For All Hair Types

Montreal-based hair color powerhouse expands beyond the salon with a new routine-driven system…

In May, Seele had the opportunity to visit Oligo Professionnel headquarters in Montreal. It was a rainy and cloudy day still feeling like fall in some way, but my experience with the Oligo team was anything but gray. A good company has the basics down, you know the things we learned in pre-school to be kind, show hospitality, and always do your best work. The company has these down to a science, the way they have their products down to a science.

Not knowing what to expect from their new Blacklight Blonde Science product line, I was feeling a little out of place. I mean it’s great that Oligo has built a reputation on being one of the top 10 professional color manufactures in North America. But, I’m black. I don’t have naturally blonde hair so where do I and people that look like me fit in, were my initial thoughts. And I took this question to Blacklight brand ambassador and hair stylist Joshua Ladner. He immediately put my concerns to rest, stating that Blacklight Blonde is for all hair types, including black hair.

Blacklight Blonde Science began with a bold question: what if blonde care was engineered with the same precision as high-performance skincare?

Blonde and highlighted hair is more porous, more fragile, and more prone to moisture loss than untreated strands. Black hair is also very fragile and prone to breakage if not treated properly. So, in the beginning stages of creating Blacklight Blonde Science, Oligo knew they wanted to create something more than a “standalone fix.” They created a line that pairs high-performance skincare actives and nutrient-rich superfood ingredients. This in turn creates a modern haircare line that hydrates, strengthens, and supports hair fiber at all stages, under three core pillars:

"Blonde hair behaves differently," said Ilan Cohen, President and CEO of Oligo Professionnel. "For decades, we have supported stylists with systems designed to protect and perfect lightened hair. Blacklight Blonde Science brings that same expertise to consumers, allowing them to maintain their blonde between appointments with professional-level care."

At their headquarters I spoke with staff that know the science. Through in-depth conversation, they pointed out the products that would work best for my hair. I know how Black women are very particular about their hair and the products they use. But ladies, there is a seat at the Blacklight Blonde Science table for us too.

Oligo is a family business, started in 1986 by Moty Cohen and his wife Liliane and today its run by their three sons Ilan (the President and CEO), Raphy (VP of Operations), and Ronen (the Controller). A chemist by training, Moty wanted to create quality hair products for the world, and he did that working alongside Liliane who handled the company’s accounting. For forty years the company has thrived on its professional haircare and color brand products, where salons across North America carry Oligo Professionnel products.

This launch marks a new phase at Oligo Professionnel, where salon expertise with accessible at-home performance, strengthens its position as a leading authority in blonde science. This new line is on the market and available at blacklightblondescience.com and on Amazon. Certain products are available in multiple sizes, with suggested retail pricing ranging from $16 to $98 USD.
