The hotel opened in September 2024, and prides itself on its very grown up vibe. Part of Standard International, which Hyatt acquired in 2024, The Manner is a new concept under the hotel brand’s Unbound Collection with an upscale design approach of bold colouring envisioned by Amar Lalvani, the President and Creative Director of Lifestyle for Hyatt. Designed by Milan based residential architect Hannes Peer (The Manner is his first hotel project) and Verena Haller, Global Head of Design & Creative Services at The Lifestyle Group for Hyatt.
Where Is It?
It’s mesmerizing due to it being set on the renowned tree-lined Thompson Street, in New York’s SoHo neighbourhood.
What’s It Like?
The adults only hotel is stunning as you walk in. (Young persons under 16 are not allowed). It’s intimate with the heavy art-filled and marbled lobby, exuding quiet serenity and elegance.
Halston would have gone crazy for such a hotel. The idea is that the hotel feels like you’re staying at the home of glamorous friend, and it combines the luxurious touches of a hotel, a private residence, and a member’s club. A hodgepodge of luxury, there’s something very Milan about it the design with wood panelling, marble flooring, heavy statues, dark tones, and large walled art.
Rooms
Turmeric coloured wall overload with matching accents of emerald green, royal blue, and red- describe the rooms and hallways. These bold colours clash, but in a good way with the Italian modernism furnishings found in the rooms. There are 97 rooms, including a Duplex Penthouse.

The 1 King Bed Corner Room is spacious with 280 square feet. The yellow turmeric hue brightens up the room, while at the same time giving retro energy. With a midcentury modern feel, it takes you back to the late 1940s into the 1970s. The sitting space is a reimagined living room area in what feels like a restaurant booth with marble table. The bathroom with mosaic tiling on the floor adds that Italian touch. The bathroom utensils are done in gold and add an extra luxurious touch, while the shower features a rainwater flow and hand-held shower head. Rooms are quiet and offer towering views of SoHo. TVs aren’t included in the rooms, all for the purpose of encouraging guests to relax, put on a podcast and connect it to the speakers, to have a conversation, or to read. This really does make the concept of staying at a friend’s home very poignant.
Food and Drink
There are four dining options at the hotel. The Rooftop, which is seasonally open (starting in May 2025) is the place to sip coffee, have drinks with friends, and have a nightcap. The Apartment is strictly for hotel guests, who are welcomed to wear their robe and relax. The menu is printed newly each morning, and includes the temperature outside. There is a complimentary menu with items like the Continental Breakfast featuring a pastry, yogurt, granola, tea/coffee, and juice. The Breakfast Sandwich hits all the right spots and includes Canadian bacon, a friend egg, and American cheese. There’s also the Smoked Chicken Hash and Green Curry. Hot drinks and juice are included. For purchase, there is a Fruit Plate ($18), Overnight Oats ($14), Smoked Salmon ($24), the Maitake Mushroom Omelette ($24), and more. From 4-7PM its Apertivo hour where guests can enjoy snacks and bottled cocktails by Chef Alex Stupak.

Sloane’s is the best pre-dinner spot with small bits from Stuffed Olives, Brussels Sprouts Tsukemono, Chicken Nuggets. Meeting up with friends before heading to The Otter is best. The bartender can mix up one of their signature cocktails like a Paper Plane or Devil’s Share, as well as well crafted mocktails.
The Otter is opened daily with Brunch, Dinner, and a Cocktail Hour. For dinner, the raw bar includes Oysters with Vermouth Mignonette and Shrimp Cocktail. Starter items range from New England Clam Chowder, to Chopped Cauliflower Caesar, and Sautéed Salt and Pepper Squid. Pasta and Mains include Lobster Roll with Saffron Coleslaw, NY Strip Steak, and Steamed Halibut.

Meetings
There are four event spaces in the hotel that can be rented out. The Otter welcomes 130 guests with a menu by Chef Alex Stupak. It can also be set up in a classroom-style meeting for 80 people. The Rooftop holds 80 people, and is fitting for intimate and corporate events with the New York City skyline as the best backdrop. The sleek hotel bar Sloane’s can fit up to 80 people, and is fitting for corporate events. And, the Duplex Penthouse is known for its party set up, holding up to 40 people, including a kitchenette, and has a private terrace with lounge chairs and a dining area.
Leisure
There is a gym, just not onsite. Partnering with Equinox SoHo, hotel guests get complimentary access during their time. The front desk will set up the reservation time for you to visit the gym.
Verdict stay here. It’s perfect for those who are mid-century modern fiends.
Best For the hiddenness of Sloane’s, which pulls you in.
