Working from Home or Back In the Office?- Shefali Karani’s Summer Wardrobe Tips

Summer’s here and despite of COVID-19, we’re all ready to bring that summery mood to our wardrobes. You can wear some summer pieces at work. Try wearing some floral prints, bright colors, or even a touch of lace

Those of you who are still working at home can wear floral prints any way you like. As long as the print doesn’t have too much going on, like if you’re having a lot of virtual meetings, try to go for a floral print that doesn’t have a print all over but is more spaced out. This is useful especially if you’re having a lot of virtual meetings as it can affect your screen presence adversely if you’re wearing something with a ton of print (it doesn’t show up well on the screen). If you’re back at work, chose a floral print with the minimum amount of print such as a shirt with florals on the sleeves only or on the edges of the shirt. If it’s a floral print all over and you’re going to wear that to work, wear that with a neutral color skirt or pants (preferably a black skirt or trousers), so that it balances out.

The best thing about summer is that we can now wear all the colors possible like bright pink or neon yellow. The problem that I’ve encountered with these colors is to choose something that isn’t super bright (not all shades of neon yellow work well especially if you’re going to wear that outfit at a meeting). I tend to go for colors that work well on my skin tone, so what may work well for me may not work well for you. Therefore, it’s good to go for colors that make you feel confident. If you feel confident, then wear that color! You’ll be surprised at how well that outfit will work for you. When choosing a top that is bright, make sure you wear that with a neutral color skirt or pants so that it doesn’t look like there’s too much going on for your outfit.

My favorite outfit during the summer is anything with lace. Lace brings a feminine touch to any outfit. I like wearing a shirt that has a subtle amount of lace on it with jeans while working from home. When attending meetings, I wear a crisp white shirt with some lace on it with a pair of black pants. Having that feminine look helps remind me that even though I’m in the corporate world, I can still be feminine and empowered at the same time.

Summer is a time to rejoice. That means it’s totally possible to wear a beautiful summery outfit at work. Floral prints, bright colors, and lace help bring that summer mood to work. Times may be tough for us all, but what you wear can brighten your mood and empower you to do more.
