Summer Is A Season For Preparation For What’s To Come

It’s amazing how God is in almost everything, and this includes summer. We see Him in autumn with His colorful brush painting over summer with rich golden colors and crisp fall air; we see Him in winter with bare naked branches and ice-cold winds and frosty snow; we see Him in spring as temps begin to rise and buds begin to peek; and, we see Him in summer with arid temps and bare skin as the sun kisses.

I must say, my favorite season is autumn because I love jackets, coats, boots and the golden colors. But, I have learned to embrace summer, my least favorite season. Growing up in the American South, it’s so darn hot and humid that summer is a burden more than a delight. But having lived in Europe and being here now, I enjoy daytime walks with light sweating.

Looking in the Bible, the seasons are mentioned in various contexts. One context in which summer is mentioned is that it’s a time of preparation. Proverbs 6:8 states: “She prepares her bread in summer and gathers her food in harvest.” Our preparation during these summer months will equip us to get through autumn and winter. That preparation could be in the form of going to a church retreat, taking an in-depth Bible study course, learning a new skill, etc. And the completion of these things now will enable us to use them when you’re inside keeping warm, and not out so much in public due to the cold season.

How are you impacting the Kingdom and preparing in these summer months? What Bible study courses have you taken? What new skill are you building? How are you going deeper in your walk with the Lord so that He can give you revelation in the season of life that you’re in, and for what’s to come? What’s most important to keep in mind is that we have a mindset of seeking God and being prepared to be used by Him in next season that’s to come.

Happy Friday and with love! God bless you and go bless someone else this weekend!
