The new L’Objet Kérylos Fragrance Has Launched And It’s Citrusy Mediterranean Bliss
L’Objet’s newest Eau de Parfum, Kérylos transports you to sun kissed Mediterranean coastlands with its orange infused notes and blue bottle
Israeli creative director Elad Yifrach launched the fragrance brand in 2004. But L’Objet is more than fragrance. Starting out as a disruptive tableware and design brand, it’s now a multidimensional design house. Yifrach puts a strong emphasis on all five senses for all products that the brand launches. And collaborating with perfumer Jean-Claude Ellena to create Kérylos was a no-brainer for Yifrach.
“This fragrance is a reflection of the endless inspiration I draw from both Ancient and Modern Mediterranean way of life.” – said Yifrach in notes. “Growing up in the Mediterranean, I wanted to bring the texture of what it is the Mediterranean means to me, and working with Jean-Claude, being a master of everything and anything Mediterranean, was a beautiful journey to dissect those exact elements and bring a precise experience of what the Mediterranean is. So, if you never lived and you have just seen it or visited it for a short period, you get one aspect of it. But when it’s part of what you are or how you grew up, you have a different connection to the landscape and way of life. And that’s what we wanted to encapsulate in this perfume.”
Resting in the citrus family, Ellena was able to combine Yuzu, Madarin, and Grapefruit, harmoniously grounded in White Musks, Sandalwood, and Wild Herbs. Its name is taken from Greek mythology, with an ode to "King Fisher," a symbol of new beginnings and positivity. To get each ingredient to match harmoniously, careful craftsmanship was poured into each note. Because Ellena carefully selects the projects he works on, as they have to align with his values, he found L’Objet to be a good fit for him.
"With Kérylos, I wanted to create a burst of light - sunshine in the form of a perfume," says Ellena. "There is this joyful, very Mediterranean, very solar side – and I wanted to encapsulate that in a bottle. Hence the citrus fruits which are the sun in the winter. A tree that produces flowers and fruits in winter – that’s specific to the Mediterranean."
Working from his lab in Grasse, France, Ellena is known for not going through an industrial process to create fragrances. He takes an artisanal approach, using essential tools and simple materials and ingredients to create.
The bottle is sleek, made with azure hues of the Mediterranean Sea. And, the black and white- almost marble esque in design (but more of a crackling effect) cap is made from wood. Having gone through an organic process, no two caps are alike. So, each bottle is individual and unique to the one who buys it.
Today, L’Objet has engaged in partnerships with and created home fragrances, apothecary products, and home furnishings. It was when Yifrach was an interior designer in Beverly Hills that he realized there was a gap in the home design and tabletop market.
This is a calm and relaxing fragrance, unisex, and vibrant. You definitely want to experience Kérylos, hands down.
