Soul Standards
Do not be conformed to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is- His good, pleasing and perfect will.
— Romans 12:2

We continue our series with being inhabitants in the world, but not being conformed to the world. This week let’s focus our attention on Soul Standards.

When you begin to align your identity with the promises of God’s Word then the soul standard of conforming to a lesser version of yourself will not be an option. You will have to overcome insecurities in your life in order to lay hold of your blessing. There are moments God will reveal your insecurities so you can learn to die to self and accept the person He is transforming you to be. When you limit your standards to fit in with others you are conforming to the world and rejecting the gifted man/woman of God that has been made perfect in His image according to Genesis 1:27. We need to remember that our lot in life is unique to our story (testimony). Your culture, your nationality, your gender, your age, your education, your economic  status, all play a factor in the person God is continually molding you to be. To eradicate any one of these grieves the spirit and limits your standard of Kingdom living and diminishes the potency of your testimony.

The standard of our soul will fight daily with our flesh questioning: who we are, our weakness, our insecurities, and unrealistic expectations set by society. So, if you face struggles in any of these areas I bid you congratulations! You are truly experiencing the daily Christian walk. Keep persevering because it will produce good fruit.

Your soul is the emotional epicenter of your being where joy and fulfilment rise up; however the feelings of, anxiety, depression and fear are also birthed out of the soul. If you give attention to your soul you will thrive in thinking and shift the standard of thinking so that your will cannot become weakened. Did you know that by neglecting the soul, your mind can become distracted and reasoning can become impaired much like substance abuse? The fundamentals to replenish the soul and draw in closer intimacy with God are by: prayer (communication with God), worship (love song to God), and the word (spiritual truth). When these fundamentals are practiced routinely they strengthen the soul and refute the lesser standards of living (compromising).

“What good will it be for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul? Or what can anyone give in exchange for their soul?”- Matthew 16:26

Your soul is the first companion in a life long journey, it is the eternal you living right now, it is alienated by sin, shattered by sin, the world conspires against the soul, yet inside of you the soul hungers and thirst for intimacy with God. You are not a living self you are living soul. 2018 should be the year of soul awareness, not self-awareness.
