The Small Things Are Actually Big Things
Sometimes in life we can lose sight of the little graces that God provides in our day. It can be hard to see that the little things are actually big things.
On my move back to the US from Berlin I had a layover at London’s Heathrow. Prior to my final move back I had been going going going that I had actually gotten very little sleep in my days leading up that final flight home. When I took off from Berlin I was so tired, and I slept the whole flight 1.5-hour flight. When I landed at Heathrow to catch my 2/4 flights home I woke up to a migraine. My migraines are debilitating with eyesight loss. If you know Heathrow it’s quite big with 5 terminals. Plus I had 3 carryon bags that I managed to sneak onto the plane instead of the allowed 2. I had a long walk (when I say long I mean long with lots of escalators, trams, buses and such) to get to my connecting flight, and with a pounding headache, dehydration, 3 bags and unstable eyesight I didn’t know how I was going to make it to a different terminal but God sustained me. When I finally got to my connecting gate I realized I should stop by the restroom, which was about a quarter of a mile from the gate. When I finished in the restroom I dreaded the long walk back to my connecting gate. But, one of those indoor airport carts stopped right in front of me and the woman driver asked me my gate number and if I’d like a ride! Thank God for His graceful gift- a ride. I could sense the Father’s love. He knew what I was feeling- so much at that moment and I sensed Him letting me know that he’d get me back to the States and that the following days and months were going to be alright. And they have been!
Even in life’s downs, God provides graces for us. He shields us from harm, He watches over us, and He sustains us. Even if it’s a season where we feel like everything is going wrong, God showers graces. We can lose sight of these graces because we’re already feeling so down. But, if we look with our spiritual eyes we will see the Father’s love and that He is with us. He knows our burdens but we just have to keep our heads up and keep moving.
So when you’re in a season that you’re feeling down and you feel like everything is going wrong, clean your spiritual eyes and see what God is doing in your day. Look really hard and the things you might think are little- they’re actually big and you will see His loving, guiding and sustaining hand.
Happy Friday!
