The Third Installment Of The Roger Vivier Pièce Unique Collection Infuses Nature, Particularly Bugs
Gherardo Felloni designs 15 intricately designed bags and gilets that are inspired by bugs
Tucked into the Roger Vivier boutique at 29 Rue du Faubourg Saint Honoré in Paris, during Haute Couture Week was a presentation so intimate and hidden. As guests walked up the large pink carpeted spiral staircase, entering the showroom space, they were the ushered through a doorway to see the autumn-winter 2024-25 collection, the third chapter of Pièce Unique, a work of art of the Viv’ Choc handbags and silk gilets by creative director Gherardo Felloni.
Themed Petites Merveilles or Little Wonders, the collection explores the namesake founder Roger Vivier and Felloni’s passion for nature, specifically insects and the greenery that surrounds them. Etched on the bags are butterflies, bees, scorpions, spiders, scarabs, lady beetles, and fireflies. To tell this accessory story the Maison put gold sculptured insects on the walls going around the room. Each wall changed, as the press notes explain, “between a diaphanous lightness and a darker sense of beauty.”
Felloni is quite meticulous about the artisans that he works with, and he chose carefully the artisans who created the hardware for each of the fifteen bags and four gilets. To get the butterfly wings just right artisans used rhinestones, and for the pearlescent patchwork they used snowy white feathers. The way that Felloni was able to create a spider web with metallic materials and crystals to represent dewdrops is fascinating. And how the bee with its latticework on black organza with topaz jewels draws you into the sheer level of creativity that humans have.
