Another Mad Max Film Will Hit Cinemas This Summer, But First It Will Premier At Cannes
Today, the Festival de Cannes announced that Warner Bros. film, Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga would premier at the 77th film festival, on May 15, 2024
It has been almost a decade since the last Mad Max film- Mad Max: Fury Road hit screens and George Miller, the film’s director, screenwriter, and producer from Australia is ready to unveil the film to the world, through the sun-kissed Cannes coast. Miller is known for his directorial work in the films Babe (1995) and Happy Feet (2006). He has also been a Festival de Cannes Jury member twice, and president in 2016. The film will no doubt bring buzz to the festival with Miller and the cast that includes Anya Taylor-Joy, Chris Hemsworth, and Tom Burke.
Synopsis
The franchise which includes Mad Max (1979), Mad Max II: The Challenge (1981), Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome (1985), Mad Max: Fury Road (2015), and the new film are like five episodes done over a period of a decade each. The Festival is calling Miller’s work as being “creating a cathartic myth, a cathartic mythology.” Each film takes place in a world gone wrong, a dystopia where speed and movement are a part of life and death. In this new film, Taylor-Joy plays Furiosa, who is trying to get back home even though various armed gangs are chasing her.
“The idea of this prequel has been with me for over a decade. I couldn’t be more thrilled to return to the Festival de Cannes – along with Anya, Chris and Tom – to share Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga. There is no better place than La Croisette to experience this film with audiences on the world stage,” said Miller in announcement notes.
