Book- The Gospel Way Catechism
The book that challenges cultural narratives in the western world, making it easier for the people of God to discern truth from secular scripts
We live in a new cultural landscape that requires new tactics to contend for The Gospel. So, Trevin Wax and Thomas West sought to tackle this view in their new book The Gospel Way Catechism: 50 Truths That Take On the Word, which is published by Harvest House Publisher, who has published nearly 200 million books around the world in 75 different languages.
The vision in writing the book is that both Wax and West say cultural narratives in the western world are so powerful, they make it hard for the people of God to discern truth from secular scripts.
In their new book, the duo takes an ancient practice and employ it afresh, to help the church recover what Christians believe in both depth and breadth. The Gospel Way Catechism went on sale in July, and explains the Christian faith in response to new challenges, asks thought-provoking fresh questions, and identifies common contradictions in the secular outlook on the world.
“In today’s secular culture (and even in the church) we are steeped in individualism, pluralism, skepticism, and other worldly ideologies, and this has led to various ‘spiritualities’ that focus on self and not on God,” says Wax and West. “We struggle to see things as they are, to understand the difference between truth and error, and to live true to our identity.
The book delves into 50 essential Christian beliefs in an understandable question and answer format. Both Wax and West teach Christians how to recognize and resist false secular narratives – on issues like belonging and identity – and to embrace historic Christian teachings. In each of their 50 truths, Wax and West highlight a cultural narrative, show where it doesn’t align with biblical teaching, and then how the way of Jesus offers a better way.
“We offer the old truths of Christianity in a way that identifies cultural narratives so they can be seen and considered, affirmed for the ways that they rightly embody some aspect of the biblical story, subverted and critiqued for not going far enough in delivering our deep desires of joy and fulfillment, and finally shown only to be fulfilled in and through Jesus Christ.”
