The Best New Year’s Resolution Is to Have No Expectations at All

The holiday season is finally here along with all the cheer and joy. Decorations and festive lights sparkle brilliantly outdoors. There’s no finer time than Christmastime and New Year’s. But as the year ends, how do we deal with the huge expectations that come from making New Year’s resolutions? The Gaza War is still raging on, Trump had an unprecedented win in the American elections, Liam Payne of One Direction faced a tragic end recently, all of which are very unexpected events. So, is it good to have a New Years’ resolution with all the expectations possible? The best resolution is to have no expectations at all.

As a mother, supermodel Gigi Hadid still walks the runways and looks gorgeous even after giving birth a couple of years ago. Yet, it’s a tough journey to bounce back to the way your body was before motherhood. Having a baby just over a year ago, I have no expectations about my weight as all new mothers should. After having all the festive food and visiting friends by the time it’s New Year’s Eve, we might then decide to make a resolution to lose weight easily. That’s a recipe for disaster as we’re already setting our expectations high to look a certain way again. So, let’s just make our lives easier by having no expectations for such a resolution.

When it comes to fashion, you may think that nothing can possibly go wrong but think again. About a year ago, fashion giant Zara faced controversy with its ad campaign that resembled images from the ongoing Gaza War. Although the ad was removed, the damage was done. Fashionistas never expected a reputed brand like Zara to ever do such a thing, but it did. Now the world has moved on much to most people’s dismay, and shoppers have gone back to the evergreen brand. The same goes for New Year’s resolutions; we tend to move on once disaster strikes and when we can no longer achieve such goals.

This year let’s all try setting resolutions without any expectations at all. Not only would we all instantly feel good about ourselves, but we would also be putting our inner most critics to rest. The only expectation is to have no expectations at all. Now that’s a New Year’s resolution surely worth keeping.
