Brilliant By Design: The Handbags of Judith Leiber $55-
This is the first full bio and full-color book of Judith Leiber, the Hungarian American handbag designer (1921-2018), who was known for her iconic bags that have been carried by high-profile women. Written by Bridget Kerr and published by Yale University Press, in association with The Mint Museum, it details how Leiber, a Jew, studied handbag construction during World War II with the hope that the new skill would help her emigrate. In 1946, she relocated to the United States, where she later established her own business. Her name, and her eye-catching sparkly handbags, became synonymous with American luxury craftsmanship.
The Mint Museum in Charlotte, North Carolina, will host an exhibition of Leiber’s handbags that will be on view from October 24, 2026–July 3, 2027.
