House Of Dior Has Been Unveiled in New York City
Dior is fully occupying the corner of 57th Street and Madison Avenue in New York City, which is steps away from where the famed Parisian brand established itself in the US, in 1948
The exterior reflects French taste, with its striking and modern white stone, and floor-to-ceiling glass panels that reach over 20 feet tall. Designed by architect Peter Marino, who is behind some of the luxury fashion’s most iconic boutiques like the Louis Vuitton store in Los Angeles, Chanel on 57th Street in NYC, and Cheval Blanc in Beverly Hills. Marino has created the Dior edifice’s exterior to be constructed with light tones, including the brand’s warm heritage style with modern elements. There is also an internal garden with sizeable greenery, designed by Belgian landscaper Peter Wirtz.
New York City was one of several places that Mr. Dior delighted in. He called the city, “one of the great capitals of the world.” In his memoir he wrote: “To all my questions, it was the city of New York itself which gave the best answer— when it appeared on the horizon at dawn on the fifth day, radiant with the glory of its Indian summer.... Carried away by my enthusiasm, I completely forgot the ancient continent of my birth... My two days in New York were spent in a continuous state of wonder.”

The 57th Street and Madison Avenue entrance, with a creamy white and gold color palette and traditional Versailles parquet flooring, is where the Women’s leather goods space can be easily accessed. Beyond that is the House’s fine jewelry collections with displays, and further on in its own adjoining enclave is La Collection Privée Christian Dior fragrance. Also, on the ground floor and through the Men’s entrance, guests will find leather goods, matching with gold oak floors and champagne wood finished walls, that complement the navy blue and grey furniture.

It's at the Calorama on the staircase, where the Women’s and Men’s spaces meet. The second-floor ushers’ visitors into the women’s ready-to-wear section of the store, along with shoes. Paintings by Nir Hod and Tony Scherman, photographs by Charles Jones and Robert Mapplethorne, and furniture by Michele Oka Doner and Roland Mellan create a space where fashion and interior art collide perfectly.
Also, on the second floor is a section dedicated to men’s made-to-measure services, where jackets, pants, shirts, and waistcoats can be made. The third floor includes fine jewelry and uber-luxury handbags, along with 2 VIP salons and a fine jewelry room. And the fourth floor includes a space for facial and body treatments from experts in the Dior Spa in New York.
