How to figure Out God’s Plan For Your Life

11 For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. 12 Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. 13 You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.

It can be difficult to figure out what we want to do with our lives. It can be even more difficult to figure out what God wants us to do with our lives. God has a plan for each and every one of us, every individual that walks this earth, God has a personal plan for their life. How do you know if you know God’s plan? How do you know if you’re doing God’s plan?

Firstly, we know that God’s plan for our lives is good. The plan is to prosper us and to give us hope and a future. Think of a time when you’ve been hopeless. I know I’ve been hopeless many times. Before I came to Christ I believed there was no meaning in life, everything was pointless and I didn’t know why I bothered waking up in the morning. This is life outside of God’s plan. You can either live in God’s will, or outside of His will.

A friend of mine was so convinced that God wanted her to marry a particular man, the only problem was that he was already married! When she spoke to a friend who shared a few Scriptures with her, she saw God’s truth and knew clearly that wasn’t His plan for her life.

You can follow God’s plan for your life, or you can follow someone else’s plan for your life. Satan masquerades as an angel of light (2 Corinthians 11:14). But God is a God of promises (Joshua 21:45) and He promises that His plan for your life will give you hope and a future. No more stressing about the career you want, no more worrying about where you will live or who you will marry – God has it covered.

Having a relationship with God means you’ve made Him Lord of your life (Romans 10:9). If Jesus is your Lord, then being surrendered to His plan for your life is a must. Now begs the question: how will I know God’s plan for my life? God says that we will find Him when we seek Him with all our heart. If you want to know God’s plan, you have to seek Him wholeheartedly.

Some questions to ponder: What’s your worship like? How have your prayer times been? Can you confidently say you’ve been seeking God with all your heart? We can never know God’s plan for our lives unless we are close to Him. Have you made your relationship with God your number one priority? Are you walking in Spirit and in truth (John 4:23-24)?

When you have closeness and intimacy with God, you give Him room to speak. God won’t speak to you if you’re not listening. Or, He’s often speaking but we’re not hearing Him because we don’t know His voice. God promises us joy and happiness when we seek Him wholeheartedly (Psalm 119:1-2). God’s plan will bring you joy and happiness if you let it. Although it can sometimes seem harmful at first, God’s plan is to prosper you, to bring you peace, joy and love. Choose today to make worship your priority again. Call out to God, open your Bible, and seek Him with all your heart – then He will reveal His plan for your life.
