Levuma High Jewelry: A Close Look At The Brand Behind Mariah Carey’s Look For The Milan Olympic Opening Ceremony

The iconic singer wore 300+ carats, and we dive into the man that creatively designed the piece, Ali Khalil.

While we were all mesmerized by Mariah Carey’s voice during the opening ceremony of the Milan Cortina Olympics on Friday night, and the flamboyant Roberto Cavalli number she was wearing and designed by Fausto Puglisi, we can’t help but inquire about the jewels.

As the music icon took to the stage at the San Siro stadium, she glistened in Levuma High Jewelry, 300+ carats to be exact. This is the second time the two have made global appearances together. Carey sang a medley of songs, starting off with the Italian classic “Volare” (Nel Blue Dipinto Di Blu) in Italian, and her own song “Nothing Is Impossible,” from her latest album Here For It All.

The diamond suite with a necklace the features a larger center diamond, a four-diamond earring pair, and an elevated diamond bracelet is crafted in platinum and comprised of natural emerald-cut diamonds. The suite was developed from a signature Levuma design, yet reimaged for Carey herself.

While Levuma is a Belgian brand, it is founded and creatively run by Lebanese, Ali Khalil who meticulously selected each diamond for the set. “For me, true luxury is about emotion, discretion, and timelessness. Seeing Mariah wear our work on such a historic stage is deeply meaningful,” explains Khalil in notes. “It is a powerful expression of what Levuma stands for – quiet strength, purity of design, and exceptional craftsmanship.”

Khalil cracked his teeth in the business world before launching Levuma in 2016. Working in international finance in London for institutions like JP Morgan and Goldman Sachs, Khalil who was born into a multi-generational diamond family, had a foundation in understanding stones in the center of the diamond trade world (Antwerp), and he knew he wanted to create a brand specialized in rare natural diamonds and contemporary high jewelry.

The suite of jewels that Carey wore were all handcrafted in Antwerp. Taking hundreds of hours to construct from carefully selecting the diamond to final hand-setting and finishing was a feat of success. Khalil designed the pieces to serve as a future heirloom, to surpass generations.

Khalil is steering the brand through an ethos of discretion, longevity, and emotional value where its pieces will live across generations. The brand does not pursue mass visibility. Its clientele are collectors and ultra-high-net-worth individuals who find themselves walking through Levuma’s doors by way of referrals, appointment, and world of mouth.

The suite that Carey wore is a sight to behold, and what a great way to reveal a little luxurious frosting to the world, than at the opening ceremony of a winter games.
