Charley Crockett’s Third Album Drops April 3rd

Part of his Sagebrush Trilogy, the album was co-produced by Crockett and the Grammy® Award-winning Shooter Jennings…

Who doesn’t love a good Charley Crockett ballad? I know I do. The multi-Grammy® Award-nominated Texas native has a new 20-track album, titled Age Of The Ram coming out on April 3rd. It’s poignant that Crockett is launching this album on a 3rd day of a month, as the number has significance. Age Of The Ram is his 3rd album in a year, his third full-length LP with GRAMMY® Award-winning co-producer Shooter Jennings, and the much-anticipated third and final installment of his epic saga, The Sagebrush Trilogy.

This trilogy is told over three stories: Act I is Lonesome Drifter, Act II is Dollar A Day, and Act III is Age Of The Ram. “Age Of The Ram is the story of Billy McLane, a small-time cattle rustler who finds himself in the crosshairs of the Santa Fe ring,” explains Crockett in notes. “Pursued by bounty killers working for the shadow syndicate, Billy Mclane escapes into the crazy mountains where the outlaw will become a legend.”

The tracks are filled with stories of outsiders, gunmen, fiends, crooks, and femme fatales, that as the announcement notes detail, are comprised of “a screenwriter’s knack for dialogue and a novelist’s attention to detail.”

Sharing one of the tracks, “Kentucky Too Long” last week with the public, you can hear his direct storytelling in the lyrics. “Daddy was in Vietnam. It says it on his old Sedan. He’s been fighting with Uncle Sam about…something. Over a simmering solo, the hook hits hard as he reflects, “Man, I can feel it coming on. I’ve been in Kentucky too long. I’ve been in Kentucky making something out of nothing too long.”

There’s something so retro and rustic in Crockett’s signature voice style, sartorial style, and sound style, and it boils down to his Texas roots and a blue-collar work ethic. He didn’t have an easy start in music but he made it. A heart defect from birth briefly side-lined him but he picked up his guitar and shared his melodic talents that have now spread to the world. The New Yorker, The New York Times, Pitchfork, and Rolling Stone have helped him get spread his albums and talent beyond the Gulf Coast’s shores.

Crockett is on tour until the end of the year.
