There are always new trends constantly happening all the time that it seems almost impossible to keep up with them! From the simplest one to the downright absurd, there’s a reason why following the latest trend can be tricky. Here are a few ways to find out which trend works for you.
When Gucci had models wear turbans a few years back, not only did that a create a huge setback for the brand, but it was so infamous to the point that it was just cultural appropriation at its worst. Outfits at the Met Gala can also be outrageous at times like singer Lana Del Rey’s outfit this year that looked so impractical to wear (that’s one trend most of us may not want to follow). And of course, certain mainstream trends like the open bag trend which was relatively unheard of until recently. This is also a trend a lot of us may not want to follow for obvious reasons. This doesn’t mean that you must pause to think about every single fashion decision you make. When following a new trend, just know what the trend is and what exactly it stands for. You certainly don’t want to be following trends without knowing what significance it has on the world around you. This is just one simple way to figure out if a trend is going to work for you or not.
Another brilliant way of finding out if a trend is meant for you is if it’s something you wouldn’t mind following. When leggings became the trend of the moment, a lot of people were quick to follow that but didn’t really think about whether it would suit their body type or not. There’s a reason why leggings are meant to be worn as leggings, not as pants. No one wants to be body shamed because of what they’re wearing, so always think twice before following such trends.
A foolproof way to really see whether a new trend is going to be for you is knowing if the trend is a classic style. When the slip dress became fashionable a while back, that was a truly beautiful and evergreen trend. It looked elegant and refined on most women, no matter their size. Such trends come back again and again. Wear what you love and you’re all set. Fashion is supposed to be beauty at its best, so enjoy it!
