The online world is one away from our reality and is filled with loads of fashion inspiration and style. Of course, we’d love to check out what’s new with this on a daily basis at times, which is fine. But what about when it starts messing with our actual lives by creating inner havoc? Here’s 3 steps to finding peace with the online social world.

The easiest step to take is to only post what you like and to post once in a while. There’s way too much going on as it is with the pandemic, so why stress yourself unnecessarily with trying to post in the way others are posting? Do what works best for you and live your life the way you want (social media posts included). As it is, no one needs to know what you’re up to every single day. Post once a week for best results and be content!

The next step is quite obvious but the most overlooked: follow, like, and connect with those that you like. Never follow a page because you want to be followed back online or like something to get a like back. That never works and is a serious waste of time to do so. Follow pages and people that you like and can relate to. Don’t follow a page just because someone tells you to or worse, because someone you know is following a page and you want to show that you too are following the same page for no reason. With that being said, it’s also important to keep in mind to never ever compare your followers, likes, or whatever it might be to someone else’s page. You don’t know what they did to get so many followers or likes, and believe me, you don’t want to know how they got this or the efforts behind this, even if you are an influencer. It takes a lot of time to gain good followers on any platform, time which some are not willing to take, so have patience and know that not everyone can achieve the same following or whatever it is. Be content with what you have and know that you do influence others, even if your page is private.

The hardest but most necessary step that needs to be taken is editing posts. Yes, it’s totally okay to have a filter or edit a post the way you like. But, allow yourself to edit posts at the bare minimum, like edit photos for brightness (you may have gotten a great picture, but the lighting is really off, so go ahead and brighten it). You can also edit for other similar settings, but please don’t drastically edit the way you look or how the whole photo looks. Accept how you are now and accept however that post is. Do not ever edit posts (even if it’s just words), if it’s not necessary! Everyone can see that and it just ends up making you feel more discontent with what’s already posted (a better option is to simply delete the whole post if no one has liked it as yet). Be calm when posting online and be kind to yourself when taking a selfie.

Whether you’re a fashionista, an influencer, or someone who appreciates the finer things in life like social media, know that you can find your online bliss. Just be open to it and be willing to change yourself. Taking these few simple steps makes all the difference and you’ll be way happier within.
