The Stella McCartney SS26 Collection Asks Us To Consider Life Under the Sea

Celebrities in attendance were Jennifer Lopez, Ms Lauryn Hill, Kellsea Ballerini, and others…

On Wednesday, during Paris Fashion week, the skies parted and rain fell most of the day. As people began to arrive to the Stella McCartney show, the rain was steady and strong. Someone mentioned that the show was to be outside. That news wasn’t amusing to those that have to sit in rain. But spiritually speaking, rain symbolizes blessing, provision, and renewal.

“To compare animals to us in order to justify our aggression is absurd; for the wolf kills out of absolute necessity, while we kill for luxury and call it justice.”
— Porphyry

As guests began to take arrive in the show space, in a garden, it was apparent that this was another spiritual symbol. A garden symbolizes provision and restoration. So, faith was really saying something: that the spring-summer 2027 Stella McCartney collection is one of provision and renewal. Coupled with the theme of caring for nature, particularly sea creatures. The thesis McCartney, a lover of animals and a vegan is asking us in collection notes is: “at what point does a living creature become a commodity, and who gets to decide?”

Fashion is a consuming industry. It’s a take, give me, look-at-me sort of world and we can often lose sight of others (humans and animals alike), thinking the only way to get to the top is to “exploit and overlook” life. But McCartney has embodied in how she lives her life and what her brand stands for that we can be in a desirable industry, yet enjoy it without bringing harm to it.

The ocean is full of sea creatures, there a whole another world and ecosystem under the sea with lives that matter too. In the words of the press notes: “Stella asks us to look again at the creatures we consume, exploit and overlook, as warming oceans, pollution and human consumption increasingly threaten life beneath the blue – making this conversation more urgent than ever.”

Sitting front row to watch this sustainable underwater world collection unfold was a plethora of celebrities from Jennifer Lopez, to Ms Lauryn Hill, Miranda Kerr, Adot Gak, Bar Rafeli, Toni Garrn, Bianca Balti, Taylor Hill, Adot Gak, and more.

The entire collection was made with 100% eco responsible materials. Diving into her own archives, McCartney produced fluid silhouettes, incorporated transparent fish-wire with crinoline hems gives a sculptured look, some looks are oyster-inspired, sculptural knitwear, and sea life motifs. Lapels are dropped, jackets and pants are gently structured, many dresses and trenches have lightweight GOTS-certified cotton organza, and sportswear silhouettes bring a unique contract to the whole collection.

What’s poignant about gowns is that they appear movable, but all are forest friendly Viscose. A green fitted gown with midriff detailing is oh-so enviable. Shoes are transparent, and McCartney dove into the archives to create one-of-a-kind loafers. AW26 adidas by Stella McCartney are styled in three looks.

Wearable, practical, stylish, and meaningful, this new collection will be available in Stella McCartney boutiques around the world, at stellamccartney.com, and at selected retailers starting January 2027.
