A Successful Meeting: 3 Rules For A Stylish Virtual Meeting
The global pandemic is finally slowing down and since most of us are back in the office, or, continuing to work from home, virtual meetings are still the norm. Here are three rules for a stylish and successful virtual meeting.
The first rule is to make sure that you are well prepared before the actual meeting. Have a space set up (and it can be a temporary space as well as long as it’s fine for you), and keep your surroundings neat and tidy. No one wants to see a pile of clothes in the background or an unmade bed. This sets up the tone for a stylish and successful meeting and shows others that you are serious about your work.
The second rule is pretty easy to mess up, but is equally as important as the first rule; being on time. You need to be on time for the meeting, even if it means you go online a few minutes earlier. If you do happen to be late by a few minutes for whatever reason (it’s only acceptable to be five minutes late since you already knew about the meeting beforehand), don’t say anything while the meeting is going on unless someone asks you. If you do say something, it’ll distract the others and possibly further delay the meeting. You can always tell them later why you were late, but only do so once the meeting is getting over. Being on time is crucial.
The third rule also needs to be followed; not using your phone during the meeting (this includes looking at your messages or even picking up a phone call that’s not super important). It shows that you’re not taking the meeting seriously and that you’d rather be doing something else at that moment. And, who really wants to see and hear what someone else is talking about while a meeting is going on? Not only is it super rude to talk on the phone then but it also shows that you don’t care if the meeting is getting delayed because of you. Of course, if you really have to pick up the phone, put yourself on mute for the meeting and put your video off if possible as well until the call is over. Others will understand. Once you’re done with the call, you may restart your video and audio again.
These three basic rules are essential for a stylish meeting. If you show that you have such style, you also show that you are classy, and in turn, the virtual meeting has more chances of going really well.
