Celine To Launch A Beauty Line

The oh-so French luxury house Celine is launching Celine Beauté, a first for the brand that will launch this fall. With a film that was shot in 2023, but unveiled today, “La Collection de l’arc de Triomphe” is taste of what’s to come beauty-wise for the brand

Celine has undergone several changes and phases over time, from first being a children’s shoe brand to ready-to-wear, then onto perfumes, then leather goods, and on to rebranding itself with its iconic interlocking Cs. Its namesake founder Celine Vipiana and her husband Richard oversaw various changes, so it’s now transition into makeup would, we assume, fall right in line with her vision of growth for her company.

Created by the brand’s creative director Hedi Slimane last year, the beauty line is an expansion from their haute parfumerie collection that was launched in 2019. Celine Beauté will draw upon the French idea of femininity, resting on the strength of what we love about French culture, which is it’s pull towards simplicity yet fiery sensuality of retro styles. This new line will draw upon the sleek Celine that we know.

Presenting fashion collections at his own pace and not during the Paris Fashion Week calendar for the moment, Slimane has been working on this project: to create a line that women will connect with through makeup and perfumes. Being the multi-dimensional artist that he is, he has designed the bottles, pencils, cases, and the entire set. One particular launching item: the “Le Rouge Celine” lipstick will be ready for the public in January 2025, coming in 15 satin-finish colors that will include “La Peau Nue,” a nude classic color seen on the models in the launch film.

It’s no wonder the LVMH backed brand has taken a step in this direction. Since 2004, the cosmetics industry has burgeoned. The pandemic and 2020 caused a minor sales setback, but it is predicted that by 2028, cosmetics will be valued at being a $129 billion industry. Celine’s Parisian competitors Dior, Givenchy, and Chanel all have beauty line so it’s natural that they would move in this direction. It will be interesting to see the products that the brand will unveil over time, and how they integrate into the cosmetics space.
