Dior Launches J’adore Intense
With Rihanna as its muse, master perfumer Francis Kurkdjian pushes its floral notes to the max, creating a fragrance that offers a sense of belonging and unequivocal pleasure…
I first experienced J’adore by Dior on a trip to Istanbul in the early 2000s. Fashion had yet to be on my mind, but as I sniffed its melodic notes at a Turkish department store, I was instantly hooked and captivated. J’adore was birthed in 1999 by perfumer Calice Becker and its iconic amphora shaped bottle and floral essence continues to live on. Master perfumer Francis Kurkdjian has created a new rendition of the scent, J’adore Intense which has been unveiled today.
“It is rare for me to compose a fragrance with a specific woman in mind,” says Kurkdjian the Perfume Creation Director for Dior, in announcement notes. Commenting on Rihanna, the muse of the fragrance he continues, “for J’adore Intense, however, I made an exception and created this scent based on an image of truly contemporary ultra-femininity. This perfume unfurls voluptuous, sunny notes. It is a “shapely” J’adore that seems rounded out with curvaceous facets suggestive of highly feminine present-day beauty.”
Rihanna is an independent, radiant, and modern woman, and, it was up to Kurkdjian to capture this in the fragrance in a way that embodies her accomplishments, her natural beauty, and Dior’s ethos of perfume-making. “With this new concentration, the Dior perfume icon is reinvented in a fragrance like an ode to Rihanna’s intense and liberated character,” explains Dior Beauty.
Because J’adore is floral in its nature, for this rendition, notes have been pushed to their highest intensity, as way to capture the famed singer. “For this new intense concentration, I wanted to create a honeyed floral nectar that was really sensual and rounded, colorful and gourmand, as though all the color-saturated flowers were revealing new irresistible and addictive intensity,” says Kurkdjian.

Upon first spritz you know you’ve sprayed J’adore because of its familiarity. As time passes and the notes release on the skin, its intensity is more poignant. J’adore Intense is strong but not overbearing, vibrant but not trying to be showy, and long lasting.
“This new J’adore brims with joy and offers potent floral sensuality in an explosion of dazzling colors with instant, addictive appeal. Jasmine takes on an apricot tinge while Ylang-Ylang, the most solar of all flowers, is crafted to bring out its sensual and radiant facets. I also chose to emphasize the addictive facet of Rose, to add mouthwatering notes that pair with a gorgeous, gourmand violet accord. Lastly, the base is coated with soft Sandalwood and a generous note of Vanilla. It is an innovative J’adore – a rounded and audacious gourmand floral that melts into the skin,” explains Kurkdjian.
The fragrance is housed in its iconic bottle that takes its cues from the timeless curves of the figure 8 silhouette created by Mr. Dior himself in 1947 for the New Look revolution. The bottle is the lightest on the market, making it sustainable due to its reduced impact on the environment. From the materials used (sand, silica) to create each bottle, to transportation, Dior takes a concerted effort to reduce waste.
Bold and timeless are the words that describe J’adore Intense. Its notes are bold and the fragrance itself is timeless, while the notes linger and last throughout the day. And its muse also captures J’adore Intense. As Rihanna remains true to herself, her liberated personality and femininity compliments the fragrance in a way that any woman wearing it will also feel bold and timeless too.
