Dior Launches Paradise from La Collection Privée
A new fragrance taking inspiration from Mr. Dior’s home in Grasse…
Every fragrance that Francis Kurkdjian, Perfume Creation Director for Dior creates for La Collection Privée is steeped in the brand’s history. He brings Mr. Christian Dior’s intent, values, and heart into all his creations and Paradise is no different. This as Kurkdjian expresses in collection notes, “invites me to seek out inspiring images in my own identity and emotions.” Dior Paradise is bold but not overly bold with its woody essence. Though I suggest you experience it to believe it.
The fragrance is part of an ode to France’s Southern Provence that Mr. Dior treasured. Diving head first into the Provençal garden of Eden, a place where Mr. Dior could often be found, it’s the myriad of almond trees found at Château de la Colle Noire in Grasse that breathes into fragrance itself.
$350 | 3.4ozThe grounds of La Colle Noire have Mr. Dior’s fingerprints all around. Designed as a refuge and a reprieve from the hustle of Paris, it’s here you find hectares of fragrant flowers, fruit trees, vineyards, olive trees, and an almond orchard. Taking the almond orchard as a reference, Kurkdjian took bitter almonds, an ingredient he expresses is underrated in perfumery and matched it with mandarin, orange, and lime for the top notes. This top note makes Paradise come alive, where he compares it to having an afternoon almond cookie. “I wanted to give it a sensual feel with a fresh woody accord evoking the scents and warmth of Provence,” he says. It’s the Tonka bean that inevitably sweetens the fragrance.
While Paradise is bold it’s not overbearing. It’s the perfect scent for summer and should be a fixture in your vanity bag as you travel for the next few months. I know it will be in my bag.
