Manish Malhotra Receives Massive Applause At The End Of His First Couture Show

A meaningful collection that’s rooted in personal memory, yet expressed through the language of couture…

The costume designer turned couturier received a standing ovation post finale, after he unveiled his first official calendar Couture collection in Paris on Wednesday. Manish Malhotra, the Indian couture designer has been able to mesh traditional sartorial craftsmanship with modern elegance in a real and relatable way.

This collection, the autumn-winter 2026 collection titled “MAA” is a personal one for Malhotra for it’s a sort of ode of mother and all mothers. He took the eternal bond that a mother has with her child and translated it into couture, through four chapters: cocoon, bond, becoming, and abundance.

With Cocoon, a mother’s nurturing heart is expressed where silhouettes are sculptural, showing the early stages of life. There’s volume, and rounded-ness that express protection and intimacy. Bond shows the knots of life. Fabric is draped and layered, showing the connection between a mother and her child through the use of modern couture techniques. Becoming is a sort of identity development, a finding of one’s voice. Vintage salli emboroidery, zardozi, and crystal work are interpreted in the detailing. And abundance is a celebration of couture, showing how values are passed down from mother to child with exceptional gowns and dramatic silhouettes.

Jewelry is another element of the collection. Malhotra’s High Jewelry of gemstones from rubies, kunzites, rubellites, and rare sapphires are expressed in this vision of motherhood. A meaningful collection, of not just beauty, but one that lauds mothers and their joy for their offspring.
