Peter Copping Is Named New Artistic Director By Lanvin

Taking a year to announce, the news is a first in a wave of filling creative director posts in luxury fashion houses

In April 2023 Brunello Sialelli left Lanvin and since then, the French House, known for being the oldest operating couture fashion house has been operating with its creative team, until yesterday when the Shanghai owned Lanvin Group announced Peter Copping as its new Artistic Director. It’s a breath of fresh air in a time when there has been turnover with major fashion houses and empty creative director posts.

A Brit, Copping is a graduate of Central Saint Martins and the Royal College of Art in London. Starting his career at Sonia Rykiel, he went from there to Louis Vuitton under Marc Jacobs in the womenswear department. From there Copping became Creative Director at Nina Ricci in Paris then went to Oscar de la Renta in New York. Copping comes to Lanvin from Balenciaga. There he oversaw the ateliers for the reintroduction of the couture collection, and was also Head of VP and Special Projects.

“Jeanne Lanvin was a visionary of her time whose interests and passions extended far beyond fashion, as do my own. I am extremely honored to have been chosen as Artistic Director of Lanvin and to be able, along with the atelier and teams, to write the next chapter for this iconic house,” says Copping in announcement notes. It was in 1889 that Jeanne Lavin founded her namesake House and made its headquarters in Paris.

Lanvin sees Copping as having a wide-array of fashion knowledge and experience across many categories, particularly his singular perspective and technical expertise of being a modern couturier- something the House pointed out in notes. “His mission aligns with the brand transformation initiated over the past two years wherein Lanvin is reframed in contemporary culture by a sensibility of radical chic and French sophistication,” explains the House.

“Lanvin Group is delighted to welcome Peter Copping to Lanvin. I am certain that Peter’s outstanding talent and capacity to reinterpret the codes of the Maison with curiosity and innovation make him the ideal candidate to drive success for Lanvin. This new chapter for the house fits perfectly with our commitment to meeting the evolving needs and desires of our clients,” says Eric Chan, CEO of Lanvin Group, in a statement.
