Cheney Chan Wows With His Butterfly and Floral Inspired Collection During the Fall Couture 2024 Fashion Week

Taking the audience on a ride of flamboyant silhouettes, it was grand indeed

Without knowing Cheney Chan or anything about it, I can already deduce one thing about him, just from the press notes alone: he’s passionately detailed. And this was very much seen in his autumn-winter 2024 collection that was unveiled on Thursday in Paris. Flamboyant, dramatic, and grand the collection exudes his eye for detail. Every voluminous silhouette is his way of expressing his creativity to the world. Quite simply it was moving.

As each look progressed down the runway, onlookers could see that he talented. But as looks kept coming, you realize that he’s not just talented, Cheney Chan is telling us, showing us that he has something to say in fashion. Themed “Dream in Bloom,” the collection was inspired by his knowledge of classical Chinese stories that draws inspiration from twelve characteristics: purity, courage, charm, resilience, endurance, passion, freedom, heroism, independence, clarity, responsibility, and authenticity.

The butterfly and the flower are the center of his base, as they transform in their respective stages from a cocoon into a butterfly, from a bud into a mature flower. It’s the same transformation seen in women as they mature throughout life. “Each flower symbolizes the delicacy and vitality of women; each butterfly embodies their transformation and radiance,” explains his House in notes.

And twelve doesn’t just stop with the characteristics of literature that Chan is drawn to, but to the twelve months of the year, twelve hours, and the last twelve years in how his brand has evolved within its DNA of Chinese porcelain and ancient ceramic methods translated into fashion. With twenty-five looks, onlookers were drawn into his intricate world of design, the folds, the draping, the color palette, the feathers, and the grandeur of it all.

“Like protagonists taking turns to shine, each piece of clothing had a unique personality, depicting innocence, bravery, responsibility, charm, and resilience, showcasing the radiant feminine spirit. This show was not just a visual feast but also a tribute and celebration of female elegance,” notes the House.

A collection of moving art, it is one for the books, one that will not be forgotten.
