The Marriage of Tech & Life: Setting Limits for Tech Usage
Technology is a blessing but can also be a hinderance if we don’t know how to maintain the delicate balance for how much tech that we use. That’s the true marriage of tech and life. But it’s easy to figure out how to set limits for the tech that we use.
When we think of tech, our phones probably come to mind. Afterall, we use our phones so much nowadays that we even carry them around with us everywhere. Phones have become a necessity, especially smartphones. We can do everything from our phones, which solves a lot of our problems but also creates a new one of how much time we spend on our phones. For those of us who are working, it’s hard to figure out when to stop using our phones. A good guideline would be to check your phone only when necessary while working. After work, try to limit the amount of time you use your phone. Don’t waste time scrolling through social media or surfing the web. It’s better that you use your free time to relax and unwind.
Now that we can watch movies and shows anytime we want, that’s another advantage that we have. But again, we can end up spending hours mindlessly watching all of this, unless we set some limits. Sure, it’s perfectly alright to binge-watch or catch up with everything occasionally, but if it’s habitual, then that’s certainly not a good thing. Use that extra time instead to do other things. There’s nothing worse than watching movies and all the whole day as it also drains your energy.
The biggest tech advantage is social media and other similar platforms that provide us with endless information and entertainment. Of course, if you’re just constantly checking everything for no reason (and no, I’m not talking about generally checking something if you have a notification), then that’s also time that could be better used for something more productive. What’s the point of going online to see if something has changed recently? Wouldn’t you rather do something else?
Although these are just a few ways that we can set limits for tech usage in our lives, these ways can help us balance the delicate marriage between tech and our lives. Use tech to better our lives and to create a better future for ourselves.
