In a location that’s fitting for the theme, Lebanese designer Tony Ward unveiled his newest collection at the Galerie de Géologie et de Minéralogie in Paris on Monday. Starting off Couture Week, the collection radiates light and some of the earth’s most precious creations: gemstones. Crystalline blends well with pastels and metallic finishes. Somehow Tony Ward is able to interact with light, grasping its power as gowns come alive in motion, and all the while speak a similar language as Tyler Ellis’s Italian craftsmanship and know-how.

Since beauty comes from precision, and radiance from harmony, surfaces inevitably redirect light. Couture is a medium for light with materials like glass, crystals, and stones that capture and redirect light. Gowns with these elements shone brightly on the runway and matched with renowned American luxury handbag designer Tyler Ellis bags. Their limited-edition collab of bespoke clutches are reimaged from Tyler’s “Perry and Eloise” silhouettes.

It’s no wonder the two found their way to each other design-wise. Both are children of renowned designers: Tyler being the daughter of Perry Ellis and Tony being the son of tailor Elie Ward. “This shared heritage informs their approach: a reverence for tradition balanced by a modern point of view, and an unwavering commitment to craft as the foundation of beauty,” explain collection notes. Their introduction didn’t begin on a runway, but on a red carpet, a place where their creations are known to be. At the 2023 Academy Awards, both dressed actress Fan Bingbing. And, at this year’s Golden Globes, both Tyler and Tony dressed winning actress Jean Smart.

Tony’s architectural vision and Tyler’s sleek elegance are the perfect designer sartorial story, where both show that talent can cross borders to collaborate, and, where light doesn’t divide, it defines.
