It Is Well With My Soul
I’m sitting in my office singing this over and over again. I love this song! As I’m singing I begin to say the following prayer:
Dear Lord,
I have this song written on my heart. There is so much beauty in these words. There is so much meaning in these words. There is so much power in these words. Thank you Father that you flood over me with your peace in times when I need a reminder that It Is Well. Thank you Father that you grant me the peace that surpasses my own understanding. Even when you are silent I am assured that you are at work, because your Word declares: I am never forgotten, never forsaken, and never alone. Even when you are silent I am assured that you are mindful of my response and actions. You see the motives of my heart and the actions that flow from my heart. I have realized that when a student is writing a test the teacher must be silent. Thank you for being my teacher in this season of testing.
I am in awe of your goodness for you have granted me grace and mercy in times where I have doubted the works of your hands. Thank you for helping me tap into a place of intimacy and rest when normally I should be fearful, anxious, or timid about my future. In the past I have seen myself react in such a way that would cause me to shift away from the shadow of your wings, but this time, I submit my life and all my desires under the Blood of Jesus. I rest knowing that whatever your response, It is Well.
Why Lord have I found peace now and not before? How Lord, have I found a way to walk more confidently than before? How Lord, have I found the comfort that I have begged for in the past?
His response: This is what it means to be in my Will. When the world around you is in chaos, when the demands of life throw you into worry or fret, when the unknown spirals into despair, it is only through the understanding that I am in control, can one truly find peace (rest). I am Yours, and You are Mine. Together we walk, together we run, and together we climb. You have found the rivers of living water that have quenched your thirst. You have found the wind that blows your troubles away and replaces it with the wind of my Spirit. Do not hesitate to receive joy from me, for I bestow it upon you freely and abundantly. The more you rest in my presence, the more freely I can flow in your life. You are gradually being transformed from glory to glory (Ref. 2 Corinthians 3:18). Now you understand how wide and long and high and deep is my Love for you (Ref. Ephesians 3:17).
To the readers, I pray that whoever needs a word of encouragement, that you will take the time to sit with this message and be reminded that joy does come in the morning. That peace is a choice and a gift all at the same time. I declare Psalms 46:10 over you today, “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.” - Amen.
