How's Your Soul?- Brokeness

We’re all broken because we live in a fallen world where sin runs rampant. We hurt people, people hurt us, we make mistakes, we try and do better but sometimes fail, we’ve got family issues, some face depression or deeper issues, some have physical impediments, some are divorced and the list goes on. Sometimes, with this brokenness/ sin thing, it can feel like we’re in a never ending race going uphill but we’re not even moving.

2016 may not have been that bad for you personally! But if you care even a little about other people, you will still want an explanation for why the world is such a mess. But more importantly, if you are honest, you will admit you are not the person you want to be. We can all put on a good face. But take off the mask and most of us are hiding character traits and behavior that we are ashamed of and can’t seem to change. So we shouldn’t just ask, “what’s gone wrong with the world? We should ask, “What’s gone wrong with me?”

In continuing with this week’s theme “How’s Your Soul?,” I want to focus on brokenness. Genesis 2 and 3 paints a firm understanding of this brokenness. God had a perfect plan for earth- plan A. All of that changed when Adam and Eve listened to the serpent and ate of the wrong tree in the Garden. Plan A, aka God’s original covenant with them had been broken. Sin entered the world and humanity [us] are inheritors of this brokenness.

But, 2017 can be a good year, where in spite of the origin of the world’s brokenness (my brokenness and your brokenness)- we examine our souls and resolve to let the Holy Spirit heal us of our brokenness or the brokenness that has been done to us. And if we can get to the root our issues then let go, we can have a much more peace-filled year.

The good news is that this brokenness won’t always stay like it is. Revelation 21:3 and Revelation 22 points out that we will experience a new life with close relationship with God, where He will walk amongst His people like He did in the Garden with Adam and Eve (Genesis 3:8). And, the serpent will be destroyed. All of this is made possible by Jesus- our High Priest who hasn’t let us down like Adam, and who has undone the work of the serpent, and Who will restore God’s original covenant. So therefore, all brokenness will be done away with. Thank God!

Happy Friday xxox!
