A Collection Of Contradictions Describe Viktor&Rolf’s SS24 Collection

With 28 looks in all-black with some white detailing, they were presented in 7 groups of 4

You never know what you’re going to get with a Viktor & Rolf collection, but you know that whatever you get, it’s going to be interesting with a meaning behind it. Themed, “Victor&Rolf Scissorhands,” a pun to the 1990 Johnny Depp Edward Scissorhands film as inspiration, guests were presented with a collection of contradiction and inconsistency. Each outfit had polar opposite meanings in each look. They, as the House notes were, “polished versus raw, studied versus improvised, serious versus funny.”

Sitting front row were actresses Bella Thorne and Amy Jackson, and models Coco Rocha and Heart Evangelista. In a packed room with white walls and a white floor, the black silhouettes contrasted greatly.

“The first look of each group - a flawless couture outfit, meticulously finished by hand - serves as a blueprint and starting point for 3 consecutive iterations of the same design,” shares the House in collection notes. To tell their sartorial story, they use velvet, sequins and satin.

Both Viktor [Horsting] and Rolf [Snoeren] challenge the limits of a tailor’s scissors, where they’re able to experiment with “decorative” cutting. Though the cutting may look chaotic, the duo insist it is controlled and they do this with the meticulous hand-finishing of each cut, slash, and hole according to the House.

So, remember how the first look in each group is meant to be the finished product? But in fact, the first looks are just initial points for something new to be formed. “What appears to be an end result actually proves to be a new beginning.”
