The Review
Background
Perched on the hillside of the former Witswatersrand, the Four Seasons, Westcliff is the epitome of quiet luxury. The hotel was not originally built as a hotel, rather as luxury residential apartments in the 1990’s for senior executives and professionals in the Johannesburg mining and financial sectors at the time, but the property has since evolved into this elegant retreat in one of South Africa’s busiest cities.
Where Is it?
Located in Westcliff, the hotel is in one of Africa’s wealthiest cities, Johannesburg affectionately known as Joburg. The Four Seasons Westcliff is minutes away from the iconic Goodman Gallery, Nelson Mandela Square, Apartheid Museum and the Johannesburg Zoo.

The quiet and tranquillity of the Four Seasons, the Westcliff is reminiscent of French countryside instead of Urban Johannesburg. Unlike most city hotels, Four Seasons, Westcliff is built in villa style layout.
The new lobby construction with a redesigned check-in area includes intimate lounging pockets, a gift shop, an outdoor balcony and a lobby restaurant. The former lobby is currently being transformed into an on-site florist.

The rooms include in-room dining, plush mattresses for exceptional sleep, scenic views and the bathrooms are classic Four Seasons design. The Panoramic View Deluxe Double room which was spacious, it had a lounge area, work station that allows for ease of working, the room includes a mini bar and snacks station. The bathrooms are also spacious with double vanity, closest on either side, and a separate toilet room. The rooms also include complementary turndown services at your request.
Food & Drink
The hotel offers three dining options, the new lobby restaurant perfect for light meals, and a quieter space for work or meeting friends, Après – Spa restaurant and the signature Flames restaurants. The Flames restaurant provides all meals, afternoon tea, as well as private dining spaces like the Cellar room, the View and Pre-View located within flames restaurant used for afternoon tea. Breakfast is served Buffet style and Al carte, and meals are cooked in a more flamed grill style instead of induction. Dinners at flames are especially beautiful with views of the Johannesburg skyline at night as your backdrop, and the dinner menu equally as impressive with its focus on sourcing local ingredients.

Leisure & Meetings

There are three conference rooms that can be opened up into one large space perfect for corporate functions as well as weddings, and a picturesque rose garden for outdoor events. Guests in the hotel can enjoy access to the fitness centre, Sauna and steam room at no added cost. The on-site spa, which is open to guest and day visitors offers various spa and salon services like body treatments, massages, facials, waxing and much more. I experienced the 60 minutes Luxury Shea Body Butter Massage, which is one of their signature massage treatments, which was followed by lounging by the Spa pool with our choice of teas and healthy treats.
Verdict
Best For a romantic escape, afternoon tea, weddings, the Spa and Restaurants are also perfect for day visitors and authentic hospitality rooted in Ubuntu.
Don’t Miss The hotel is a must visit when the Jacaranda trees are in full bloom from late October into early December, where the tree line turns purple.
Price the room rates start at $599 or ZAR9880 for a garden view deluxe room.
